MBFW: P.E NATION BLURS THE LINES OF FASHION AND SPORT BRINGING ELEVATED STREET STYLE TO THE RUNWAY

The world of fashion and active wear collided on the runway as P.E. Nation presented their first solo show ‘Physical Education by P.E Nation’ at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia today. The runway also saw a first for fashion week as P.E. Nation unveiled their new collaboration with iconic swimwear brand, SPEEDO under a waterfall of rain.

 

The collection was inspired by the brand’s signature sporty 90s vibe with guests seated against the backdrop of a custom built stadium, fusing the worlds of sport and style. P.E. Nation Style squad in the front row included Sarah Ellen, model Victoria Lee, Lindy Klim, Elle Ferguson and partner Joel Patfull, Sammy Robinson, Isabelle Mathers, along with Yan Yan Chan, Josh Heuston, Erin Holland, Carmen Hamilton, Brooke Hogan, Amy Pejkovic, Bree Warren, Tanja Gacic, media icon Nancy Pilcher, designers Mikey Nolan and Toby Jones from Double Rainbouu and Channel 9 news presenters, Brooke Boney from The Today Show.

 

Co-founded by Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning three years ago, the impressive design duo continued to blur the lines of fitness and fashion with an elevated and bold collection built around the signature colours of white, black, red, blue and fluro orange with injections of clashing pastel hues and gold accents.

 

Experimentation and play is the new norm. Oversized spray jackets combined colours in rule-breaking ways while long line sport crops were paired with the wide leg, oversized ‘Electric Eye Track Pant’ or high waisted fashion pants with pockets and belted detailing to elevate looks from the gym to the street. Tie-dye is on an upward trajectory, providing a fun backdrop for iconic graphic logo tees while retro inspired oversized hoodies with custom P.E Nation prints offered luxe sportif appeal. High performance, premium active wear sets set the runway alight in scorching hot pinks and bright, bold orange.

 

The Resort ’20 collection also saw the brands first complete Denim line along with an exciting collaboration with PARED EYEWEAR completing the P.E Nation street style circuit. Denim lovers can expect super soft denim with a rock and roll edge, seen through the use of contrast denim colours, motor cross pocket stripes, fringed seams, rips and badging. A strong collection of cropped denim jackets with retro Americana style badging reminiscent of 90s street style, rounded out the offer.

 

Guests were teased with a dark and moving film before P.E. Nation unveiled their collaboration with SPEEDO, designed to create the ultimate active-swimwear capsule for Summer 2019. The P.E. Nation x SPEEDO collection presents the perfect synergy of old meeting new whilst designs pay homage to Aussie beach culture and our iconic coastal lifestyle. Classic 20’s racer-backs, paddle suits and two-piece sets are united with P.E Nation’s signature sport-meets-fashion aesthetic. Made from SPEEDO’S exclusive Eco fabrication, style truly meets performance, creating a greater freedom of movement with functional sportswear that doesn’t harm our ecosystem.

 

Commenting on the production of the film and epic rain finale, Pip Edward said, “It was really important to play to the physicality of the product and fabrication and to see swim in a different light. We naturally see swim in a beach style setting and we wanted to present an edgier and more emotive presentation of the category.”

 

Commenting on the collection as a whole, designer Pip Edwards says, ‘There’s strength in unity and community and this collection is really about standing strong. We want women to have fun with their dressing and unleash confidence this season. Resort ’20 is a reflection of the brand’s evolution, showcasing a concrete blend of fashion pieces paired back with luxe performance wear with our P.E. twist”.

 

In a commitment to sustainable fashion, the collection will also see the launch of P.E Nations first-ever recycled active set. Fabrications are made using recycled yarns, organic cotton tanks and tees. Understanding packaging is a huge source of waste, P.E. Nation will move to bio degradable packaging by July 2019, which will be used from recycled fabrics and be 100% compostable.

 

Slick wet hair looks with a feminine edge created by O&M presented the ultimate cool girl image on the runway. To complement, MAC Cosmetics brought earthy tones and a glint of gold as armour to give the natural look of strength and confidence that is synonymous with the brand’s DNA. To ensure the cleanest base for beauty looks, all models were treated to the ultimate cleanse backstage with Neutrogena’s new Deep Clean Cleansing Oil. Designed to remove the toughest waterproof mascara in just one wipe, the P.E. Nation squad was fully prepped for their striking runway looks.

P.E Nation was established in Sydney, Australia by Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning.
